Adopted at Birth

BFLW Devotional

“Lo children are an heritage of the Lord” Psalm 127:3. “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:13-14.

These verses serve as a reminder that even before we were born God knew about us. He is the one that formed every little detail about us when we were in the womb. I especially love the verse that says we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. This shows that every baby is so unique and special to God. These verses also remind us that an individual’s “self-worth” is not found in what people think it should be but in the fact that everyone is made in the image of God. God has a special plan for each baby, and He knows what that plan is even before that baby is born. What a special thought! These verses encourage us to be thankful for the gift of life.

On a personal note, I was adopted at birth. I am so thankful that my birth mother chose life for me. I have since found my birth mom and I have a wonderful relationship with her. This fact urges me to encourage other women who find themselves in the situation that my mother was in.

Maybe they feel that they do not have a choice, but I want to help them make the decision to save their baby. If they feel that they cannot raise the child themselves, I want to remind them that adoption is a wonderful choice. There are so many couples wanting to adopt a child.

I once heard someone share Micah 6:8: “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” We must ask ourselves if we are living humble lives? Are we striving to take action and meet the needs of the many people around us that need to see Jesus in us. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. All we have to do is accept His gift of eternal life. There is nothing that we can do to earn our way to heaven. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and not of yourselves it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
