Deuteronomy 30:19, “,,,I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed (descendants) shall live. That thou mayest love the Lord thy God…obey his voice…cleave unto him…”

In Wisconsin, many pro-life citizens rejoiced when the legal steps had all been accomplished so we could purchase license plates for our cars which encourage all who see them to “Choose Life.” A purchase of the Choose Life license plate will include a tax-deductible $25 contribution each year to Choose Life WI, Inc. and their ongoing support of Wisconsin’s life-saving, women-helping Pregnancy Resource Centers. What a great way to declare our belief that we are PRO-LIFE! What an easy way to make a small donation every year that will make a BIG difference to many centers, including the 4 centers currently operating through BFLW. After only a few months, thousands of dollars have been raised through the Choose Life license plate purchases!

Why should I choose life?

  1. The ability to choose is a gift from God. In the Bible verse above, GOD is speaking! HE has set before people “life and death,” the ability to choose whether they want to embrace and invest in life or death in all the stages of life. My mother used to tell me, “You are free to make your own choices, but you are not in control of the consequences.” Even when we choose life, we may be dealing with the consequences for years to come: raising a child (perhaps as a single parent), dealing with emotional challenges because we chose adoption instead of abortion, caring for a terminally ill parent until they pass away by natural causes. Choosing Life doesn’t guarantee an easy future! But the consequences of choosing death are waiting “in the wings” as well: physical and mental anguish resulting from abortion or euthanasia, inability to have children in the future, even personal premature death because a family member may choose death for me. Choosing death may take care of my immediate discomfort or stress, but it certainly doesn’t guarantee an easy future.
  2. Choices I make have eternal consequences. Of course humans live when we “Choose Life.” But there is something more important than living 70-80 years on planet Earth! Every living human being has another choice to make. Will I love the Lord my God? Will I obey his voice? Will I embrace him and his truth? If I have chosen death (or someone has chosen death FOR me) I will lose my opportunity to have a relationship with the true and living God! There will be no belief in and obedience to his Word!

If you are reading this devotional today, please choose life–for here on Earth and for eternity!
